The turbulences in the financial markets have shown how important the worldwide enforcement of regulations is: the most relevant regulation for the participants of our study was and still is MiFID: almost half of the companies consider the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive to be a driving factor for reference data automation. Basel II is named by 47%. The US Sarbanes-Oxley Act has got a strong influence is the US while it does not play a decisive role in Europe. On a global level, 18% underline its importance as driver for automation. UCITS III and UCITS IV only play a minor role for the interviewees of this survey. Surprisingly, 36% of the firms consider other, unspecified factors to be relevant driving forces.
