Reuters DataScope for Privatbank IHAG
The multi-data feed platform of AIM Software, the GAIN DataDesktop, was pivotal for Privatbank IHAG Zürich to import a set of specialized data from the Reuters DataScope Portfolio data feed into its banking application APSYS III.
At the beginning of 2005, the Swiss Privatbank IHAG Zurich (IHAG) decided to use the extended multi-data feed functionalities of the already installed GAIN instance – the modular data management and risk management platform of AIM Software – to import selected data from Reuters DataScope into APSYS III.
Data from Reuters to complement Telekurs data
In parallel to the existing daily delivery of Telekurs data, the
following Reuters DataScope data is now also automatically being
imported into the banking application APSYS III:
- Foreign exchange rates
- Interbank offered rates (Spot and Forward)
- Euro market interest rates (Spot and Forward)
- Indices
Using the powerful workflow management module of GAIN, the required data is automatically exported to APSYS III input files, which are being processed by the banking application through APSYS III batch programs. In order to translate Reuters data codes into APSYS codes – e.g. security identifiers, currencies and stock exchange codes - the GAIN mapping engine is being used. Even bank-specific code mappings are thereby possible.
"A very strong advantage of GAIN is the transparency of the multi-data feed integration and of all processing steps through the workflow management functionalities. The desired fields from different data feeds can be analyzed and extracted in a graphical manner,", explains Daniel Albisser, First Vice President at Privatbank IHAG Zürich.
With the GAIN DataDesktop, a bank is able to automatically process all Reuters data coming from various Reuters sources like DataScope Portfolio, DataScope Equities, DataScope Fixed Income, Reuters Data Feed (RDF) or IDN and about 10 other data feeds from several providers.
Working with GAIN DataDesktop since 2002
"We have been using the GAIN DataDesktop successfully since 2002 for
the day-to-day processing of Telekurs data and for the migration from a
former legacy system to APSYS III", states Albisser. The original
purpose was to import corporate actions reports and pricing data into
an existing environment without changing the software in use. Now IHAG
is able to work in an automated environment and can undertake further
steps towards a fully automated processing of security data from the
data feed of its choice.
Trusting on the multi-data feed functionalities of GAIN
The parallel processing of Reuters data and Telekurs data relies on the
proven and comprehensive functionalities implemented in the GAIN
DataDesktop.
The GAIN DataDesktop is based on a multi-data-feed architecture, which allows to process all types of data providers simultaneously and to match them for the comparison of pricing data, reference data and corporate actions. With the wide ranging possibilities for reconciling and cleansing of data (Data Scrubbing), GAIN enables users to compare e.g. prices from various data suppliers with all comparison rules being defined in a comprehensive "rule editor".
"We are pleased to have proven with this project that a client can consequently extend GAIN to cover new data areas without heavy IT investments", Martin Buchberger, Head of Sales & Marketing at AIM Software, concludes.
